Nathan Metzger
Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Hi, I’m Nathan Metzger. I grew up on PEI and started my career working with youth in care and youth justice; these experiences profoundly shaped how I see people and the systems around them. I went on to study Sociology and Anthropology at UPEI, where friendships and ideas broadened my understanding of the world and what it means to live meaningful lives. From there, I completed my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, deepening my understanding of suffering, support, and the ways people make sense of their lives.
Over the years, I’ve worked with people across the lifespan, from children to the elderly, supporting those experiencing addiction, mental health struggles, disabilities, homelessness, illness, grief, and the kinds of existential questions that surface when life feels heavy or uncertain.
Life’s challenges, whether they involve relationships, loss, or personal struggles, can feel overwhelming and uncertain. There’s no single ‘right’ way forward; the best path is the one you’ve considered and chosen with intention. My role isn’t to provide answers but to walk alongside you as you navigate difficult emotions, uncover new perspectives, and make sense of what you’re going through. Together, we create a space where you can feel supported, build resilience, and find clarity.

My Approach
We start by making sense of your story together, the context, the weight, and the things too big to hold alone

Rooted in Connection
I believe healing happens through relationships. Whether you’re carrying grief, addiction, trauma, anger, or something harder to name, there’s space here for all of it. We start by making sense of your story together, the context, the weight, the things too big to hold alone.

Archaeology of Hope
This isn’t exploratory surgery. I’m not here to diagnose or dissect. We move at your pace, with your permission, through what’s been buried or overlooked. Together, we uncover patterns, meanings, and moments that still hold weight. I bring reflection, questions, and a willingness to look closely, because sometimes hope hides in the places we least expect.

An Honest Conversation
Therapy with me isn’t about quick fixes or one-sided advice. It’s real conversation, searching at times, steady at others, always collaborative. I bring curiosity, perspective, and space for what matters most to you. You bring your story, your pace, and a willingness to explore. This is work we do together.
Who I Work With
I work with people carrying deeply human stories
Living with addiction while searching for acceptance, meaning, connection, hope, or change.
Making sense of grief or trauma that has left its mark, learning how to carry it and live a life that still holds meaning.
Living with disability, chronic illness, mental health struggles, or the weight of burnout that makes life feel unmanageable.
Wrestling with big questions about life, identity, hope, or faith, wherever those questions lead.
Walking through death, dying, or palliative care, as the one facing it or the ones loving them through it.
Facing life transitions that feel too big to navigate alone, leaving care, entering care, or anything in between.
Life is full of turning points, moments of loss, change, questioning, and transition that can feel overwhelming for individuals and families alike.
These are times of uncertainty and adjustment, and my role is to walk alongside you and your family with compassion, clarity, and steadiness.
This is a space where people are seen and heard without judgment, where every part of your story can be explored at your pace.
How I See People
We’re all shaped by what we’ve lived through: family, culture, work, loss, illness, money, and the thousand small moments that stack up. They leave marks. But they don’t get to write the whole story.
In therapy, we slow down, look at what has been shaping you, and choose what matters now.
Shaped, Not Defined
Your history matters BUT it isn't the whole of you. We’ll hold the context that formed your reactions and coping, and we’ll also look at the part of you that can respond, decide, and try something different.
A room to take back your voice
This isn’t about labels. It’s a place to say things out loud, notice patterns that are hard to see on your own, and decide what you want to keep and what you’re ready to set down.
Choosing life in the small ways
Change often starts quietly. We notice what helps, what hurts, and what you want to try next. Not a perfect plan, just steps that fit your real life, and a way of living that feels more like you.
Reaching Out Can Be Hard
If you connect with what you’re reading, reach out. I’d love to work with you.
